Challenges and automation

Create challenges, schedule the workflow, and control missing decisions and feedback.

Create a challenge

Choose New challenge and enter a title, context, description, and challenge-variable values. You can build it manually or use AI assistance to produce a draft. Always review generated content before publishing.

Opening behavior

A challenge can open immediately or at a scheduled date and time. A scheduled challenge remains hidden from students until its opening time.

Automation modes

Full automation can manage the decision deadline, result processing, and feedback release. Manual mode leaves those transitions to the instructor. Classroom scheduling defaults provide a starting point for new challenges.

Missing-decision policy

Choose how SCALE handles a student who has not submitted by closing time. Depending on classroom configuration, the system may use default decisions or generate an absent-student decision with none, low, medium, or high consequence.

Feedback release

Choose immediate, delayed, scheduled, or manual release. In manual mode, review results and the teacher debrief before making feedback visible.

Edit safely

Challenge content and timing can be edited while the lifecycle allows it. Avoid changing the instructional model after students have submitted unless you intend to reset and rerun the round.
